MANILA, Philippines – A series of tune-up games are now being mapped out to help Gilas Pilipinas prepare thoroughly for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.

League commissioner Chito Salud told the PBA website’s Snow Badua that the league is considering staging a Gilas Pilipinas vs. PBA selection match during the PBA All Stars.

He said it will replace the “Rookies, Sophomores & Juniors vs. Veterans” in the PBA All Stars, which takes place on May 29 after the Commissioner’s Cup.

“Tingin ko maganda ‘yun kasi mabibigyan agad ng training ‘yung national team,” said Salud.

This will be followed up by a series of games between Gilas and the PBA teams to keep the national squad in active competition.

“Para maging active 'yung Gilas at hindi mawalan ng high-level competition, pwede nating bigyan ng tune-up katapat ang mga ballclubs natin,” said Salud. “At the same time, hindi masyadong mami-miss ng fans 'yung mga players… kasi mapapanood pa rin sila.”

Badua also reported that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has already extended an invitation to the Chinese ballclub, Shanghai Sharks, for a series of games against the Filipino team on May 6-8.

The SBP is also planning to hold an invitational that will pit Gilas against other Asian teams like Qatar, Lebanon at Jordan.
