MANILA, Philippines – The University of Perpetual Help-A Altas, the San Beda Red Lions and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers held off separate foes last Sunday to stay in contention for semi-finals berths in the 10th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open.
Earl Thompson fired 14 points and Crispin Elopre contributed 11 points for the Altas, who frustrated the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 66-55, at the Arellano University gym.
The Altas are unbeaten in four games and still hold the solo lead in Group B.
Meanwhile, the Growling Tigers picked up their second straight win after escaping the Far Eastern University B-Tamaraws, 83-79.
Kevin Ferrer led the way with 19 points, while Ed Daquioag and Karim Abdul each scored 15 for UST.
Francis Abarcar scored 15 points for San Beda, who defeated Lyceum Philippines University-B Pirates, 67-60, in Group A action.
In women’s play, Ara Abaca fired 18 points as the La Salle Lady Archers defeated the UST Tigresses, 65-55.
The top four finishers in each bracket will advance to the quarterfinal of the tournament.
