MANILA, Philippines – Three-time PBA scoring champion Gary David is confident of GlobalPort’s chances in the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup after the team acquired several new players as well as a new coach.

“Natuwa ako, kasi nagpalakas talaga kami,” David said in an interview with Snow Badua on the league website. “Palaban na itong team namin.”

GlobalPort won only one game in the Philippine Cup, but they figure to be among the most promising teams in the second conference after trading for versatile guard Solomon Mercado and athletic big man Japeth Aguilar.

Also suiting up for Batang Pier in the Commissioners’ Cup are Yousif Al-Jamal, JP Belencion and Kelly Nabong.

They also have a new coach in Junel Baculi.

David compared the current GlobalPort squad to his former Powerade Tigers team. “Yung Powerade namin dati, gutom sa karangalan. Itong GlobalPort ngayon may gustong patunayan,” he said.

Aside from Aguilar, Mercado and David, Batang Pier will also feature former league MVP Willie Miller as well as new import Justin Williams.
