MANILA, Philippines – It will be a Ateneo-La Salle showdown for the UAAP Season 76 baseball crown after the Green Archers and the Blue Eagles swatted away their respective opponents last weekend at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Blue Eagles earned the chance to repeat as champions following a 14-4 victory over the University of Santo Tomas (UST( Tigers, while the Green Archers arranged a date with their archrivals with their 14-11 win over the University of the Philippines (UP).

La Salle (7-1) and Ateneo (6-2) are now unreachable in the standings with only two games left in the elimination round.

With a six-team field, the tournament format calls for the top two teams after the eliminations to duke it out for the championship in a race-to-two series.

La Salle, champions in the 2002-2003 season, started hot with an eight-run explosion at the bottom of the first inning.

They had to stave off the stubborn Fighting Maroons, however, as UP nibbled on La Salle’s commanding lead with three-run productions from the fourth to the sixth innings.

Meanwhile, Adamson University dashed National University’s title aspirants with a 6-4 triumph. NU, last year’s losing finalists, dropped to a 3-5 card, the same record as the Falcons.
