MANILA, Philippines – The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and San Mig Super Coffee Mixers are ready to battle again after splitting the first two games in their best-of-seven semi-final series in the PBA Philippine Cup.
San Mig drew first blood when it stole Game 1, 85-83, but Ginebra bounced back in monstrous fashion by crushing the Mixers in game 2, 93-64.
Game 3 is set for Sunday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.
San Mig head coach Tim Cone accepted the blame for the Mixers’ performance in Game 2, admitting to PBA.ph that they were “poorly prepared” for the adjustments made by Ginebra.
“It’s not the first time that I’ve gone from genius to idiot,” he said. “Game 2 was on me…. Everything kind of imploded for us.”
“The good news for us is, you don’t get extra wins in the series for a blowout,” he pointed out. “It’s still just 1-1, but we certainly have to pick it up, me especially.”
Meanwhile, Ginebra head coach Ato Agustin is already anticipating the adjustments that San Mig will make for Game 3, but stressed that his team will remain aggressive no matter what.
“That will really be the key. Kapag di kami naging aggressive, walang mangyayari sa amin,” he said.
Ginebra took control Game 2 in the second quarter en route to the huge victory.
“We had a good adjustment, good start and good defense,” said Agustin. “It all came from the intensity we showed in the game. We were able to limit them in the 60s. It’s an indication of the effort we put up on defense.”
Game time is at 5 p.m.
