MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort would like to see Japeth Aguilar first before they begin discussing his contract.
According to Richard Dy’s report to Spin.ph, GlobalPort management hopes the former Ateneo standout will be in good shape when he returns to the country.
Aguilar, who was recently traded by Talk ‘N Text for Global Port’s Rabeh Al-Hussaini, is currently with his parents in the US.
“Hopefully, nasa kundisyon si Japeth. Gusto muna namin siyang makitang mag-ensayo, then maybe after two to three practices, we'll start talking about his contract,” said GlobalPort team manager BJ Manalo.
Aguilar reportedly asked to be released from Talk ‘N Text due to lack of playing time.
GlobalPort owner Mikee Romero assured Aguilar that he will be given plenty of playing time as soon as he formally joins the team.
“I hope he will return soon and join the team. We are excited to have him, and ready to give him the playing time he wants,” said Romero.
“Sa ngayon, inaayos muna namin `yung flight details niya," added Espiritu.
Aguilar's original three-year contract with Talk 'N Text expired last July after the Tropang Texters acquired him from Burger King (now Barako Bull) following his selection as the No.1 overall pick in the 2009 draft.
After one season with the Tropang Texters, he left Manila to pursue his dream of making it to the NBA.
