MANILA – Filipino super featherweight Michael Farenas is reportedly being considered for an undercard fight in the Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado rematch in Las Vegas, Nevada in March.
Farenas apparently impressed Las Vegas fans when he fought unbeaten Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight last December.
“Farenas might fight (on) March 30 in the Rios-Alvarado card in Vegas,” said his manager-promoter Gerry Peñalosa in Philboxing report by Rich Mazon.
The unheralded 28-year-old put up an entertaining fight against Gamboa, getting knocked down twice early in the fight before decking the Cuban in the ninth round of their WBA interim super featherweight title bout.
Farenas eventually lost the match by unanimous decision.
Peñalosa said he is keeping in touch with Top Rank regarding the details of the undercard fight.
