MANILA, Philippines - Rey " The Hitman" Loreto, the 23-year-old pug from Davao City, is gunning for the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) light flyweight crown opposite South African Nkosinathi Joyi at the Monte-Carlo Boxing Bonanza in Monaco on Saturday.
Brico Santig, Loreto's match maker, said he won’t be surprised if his client pulls off an upset against the seasoned South African.
"He's proven to be something of an upset king," said Santig. "We are ready for war."
Some of Loreto’s victims are former WBA champion Pornsawan Porpramook and Wisanu Kokietgym.
Joyi's manager Siphatho Handi said they are not looking past the Filipino underdog.
"We are not taking the Filipino lightly. Underestimating an opponent can sometimes boomerang and leave you with egg on your face," he said.
The Joyi-Loreto fight will be on the undercard of the WBA middleweight title fight between Gennady Golovkin and Ghanaian Osumanu Adama. -Marlon Bernardino-
