MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Lady Spikers moved one step closer to defending their women’s volleyball crown after booking a seat in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 75 tournament Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.
The Lady Spikers outclassed the Adamson Lady Falcons in three sets, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-8, to win their ninth straight match and become the first team to clinch a semi-finals berth in the tournament.
Three La Salle players scored in double figures, led by Victorana Galang with 16, while skipper Abigail Maraño scored 14 and Mika Reyes added 11.
La Salle's net defense once again proved to be the difference as they scored 17 points off blocks to only three for Adamson.
After dropping the first set, the Lady Falcons were able to threaten in the second set as they came as close as 19-21, but collapsed down the stretch as they committed three consecutive errors to give La Salle the win.
The Lady Spikers showed their dominance in the third set as they built a 19-6 lead and cruised to victory.
The loss snapped Adamson’s three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 6-4. The Lady Falcons are now in a three-way tie with the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Tigresses and the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws for third to fifth place in the league standings.
Shiela Pineda and Pau Soriano each scored eight points for the Lady Falcons.
In the first game of the double-header, the UST Tigresses made short work of the University of the East Lady Warriors to get back on the winning track.
UST swept the Lady Warriors in three sets, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-23, to wrap up the match in just one hour and 15 minutes.
Carmela Tunay topscored for the Tigresses with 11 points while Maika Ortiz added 10.
