MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University dropped the first set before closing out Far Eastern University (FEU) in UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball action on Wednesday.

For the first time this season, the Lady Spikers was forced to yield a set before fashioning out a 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 25-10 win over the Lady Tamaraws at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers nailed their 10th straight victory to secure the first semifinals berth.

The Taft-based volleybelles, however, saw their own remarkable streak of 28 straight-set wins snapped by the ladies from Morayta.

“Hindi ko naman iniisip ‘ yung streak. Wala kaming iniisip na makaka-straight sets, basta ang importante sa amin ‘yung result," said La Salle head coach de Jesus, who collected his 200th UAAP career victory.

Also in women’s volleyball, Adamson University moved in a tie with FEU at fourth spot after a 25-17, 25-20, 25-9 drubbing of UE.

The Lady Falcons joined the Lady Tamaraws with a 5-5 slate, making the race for the fourth semifinals slot too close for comfort.

In men's volleyball, titleholder NU downed Adamson (5-5), 25-21, 24-26, 25-15, 25-17, to move within a win of clinching the first Final Four berth, while University of the Philippines (4-6) defeated UE (0-10), 25-16, 25-16, 32-30, to get back on track in the playoff race.
