MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So fought Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna to a draw to share fourth place after 10 rounds of competition in the 76th Tata Steel Tournament in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam on Saturday.
A day after a magnificent win over Dutch GM Loek Van Wely, So settled for a draw with Harikrishna after 31 moves of Ruy Lopez Berlin.
So now shares fourth place along with three other players – Harikrishna, Italian GM Fabiano Caruana and Cuban GM Leineir Dominguez.
All four players have 5.5 points each.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Armenian GM Levon Aronian has virtually clinched the championship in the tournament after beating Dominguez following 42 moves of Ruy Lopez Opening.
Aronian has amassed 8.0 points with one round left to play, two points ahead of second placers Dutch GM Anish Giri and Russian GM Sergey Karjakin.
Giri and Karjakin ended their own match in a fighting draw after 32 moves of Catalan Opening to wind up with 6.0 points each.
