MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle coasted to its ninth straight victory but not without having a few tense moments with Adamson University during their clash at the UAAP Season 76 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on Saturday.

The Lady Spikers flirted with trouble in the second and third sets before completing a 25-9, 25-19 and 25-13 victory against the Lady Falcons.

Abi Maraño, who was to receive her Miss Volleyball award at the PSA Annual Awards on Saturday night, led La Salle with 12 points on 7 attacks and 1 service ace.

Maraño said she and her team mates needed to neutralize Adamson’s game to take 25 straight win since the 75th season.

“Kailangan magtiwala ka sa kakayanan ng mga kasamahan mo,” she said during the post-game interview. “Kelangan icontrol namin ang game, hindi kami dapat magpakontrol.”

The win assured the defending champions a playoff for a semifinals berth.

Meanwhile, Far Eastern University (FEU) dropped the first set before taking the next three to overcome University of the East (UE), 20-25, 25-5, 25-18 and 25-14.

The Lady Tamaraws now enjoy solo fourth with a 5-4 card, courtesy of Genevieve Casugod who tallied 16 points on 10 attacks and 6 blocks.

Casugod said they weren’t used to playing at the MOA Arena, hence they found themselves trailing in the first set.

“Palagay ko po ‘yung communication po parang nabinago kami kasi Arena [in San Juna] po kami noong first round,” she said.

She added that they will be having a tough assignment against league leader De La Salle, whom they will play next.

“Siguro magtetraining pa po kami ng sobra kasi may 2 days pa po kami bago kalabanin ang La Salle,” said Casugod.
