MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra pulled off a big win over Alaska on Saturday to book a trip to the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.
The Gin Kings established total control from start to finish for a 108-95 finish against the struggling Aces at the jampacked Cuneta Astrodome.
Birthday boy Japeth Aguilar had a monster game for Ginebra, tallying 29 points and 13 rebounds.
The Kings also drew big numbers from their stellar cast: LA Tenorio had 22, Chris Ellis tallied 16, Mac Baracael and Mark Caguioa each scored 12, while Greg Slaughter had 11.
Ginebra dictated the tempo right from the beginning by immediately piling a 32-10 lead early in the game.
The Aces managed to cut the deficit to 29-44, but Ginebra quashed the uprising and jacked the lead to 65-36.
Aguilar took matters in his own hands in the third where the Kings’ advantage went up to 31 points, 76-45.
Calvin Abueva then sparked a mighty run for Alaska near the end, but his efforts proved futile when he was ejected due to foul trouble.
Jayvee Casio topscored Alaska with 16 points, while Gabby Espinas also notched 16.
Ginebra will move into the best-of-five semis series against the survivor of Game 3 between Talk 'N Text and San Mig Coffee.
