MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami said they have already deliberated on the candidates being considered to take over coach Michael Weiss’ post.
"The next thing is to talk to them and hopefully before the end of January we are able to make a choice and have him come over by the first week of February," Palami said in the Azkals’ official website.
The Azkals management has recently decided to part ways with the German football coach after the latter’s contract with the team expired on January 15.
The decision was part of a coaching revamp aimed at taking the team to the “next level.”
Palami confirmed that there are a number of coaches who are interested in the job.
"Anyone of (the candidates) can actually be a good candidate," he said. "It's just a matter of the negotiations, once we get to talk to them, we will know how they will approach this challenge of putting the country as one of the top teams in Asia."
The coaching change is also part of the Philippine Football Federation’s (PFF) preparations for the team’s upcoming participation in the AFC Challenge Cup main draw in Maldives this May.
Palami said they are now preparing profiles of the members of the national pool so that the incoming coach will be familiar with each member of the team.
"We have asked the management to prepare the profiles of those in the (national) pool so the new coach can read their profiles before he meets them," he said.
