MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee is expected to go all-out against Talk ‘N Text on Friday when they resume their best-of-three quarterfinals series in the PBA Philippine Cup.
The Mixers took Game 1 in their race-to-two affair, 90-83, to gain a 1-0 edge against the reigning Philippine Cup champions.
But San Mig coach Tim Cone said he isn’t expecting Talk ‘N Text to just surrender the fight.
“We’re playing a team which has players who have been through the wars and know how to play a series so we’re certainly not counting our chickens,” Cone said in the league’s official website.
He added that they better conclude the series or the Tropang Texters might find their way to build momentum.
“We know they’re formidable and we have to be at our best to close this thing out. There’s no comfort in us being one up in the series,” said Cone.
For his part, Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black said they need to control the boards and prevent the Mixers from scoring second chance points.
The Texters got outrebounded 55-45 and have given up 16 points off 20 offensive boards.
“We will have to do a better job on the boards and limit their second chance points,” said Black.
“Also we must take care of the ball because they scored 20 turnover points last game. It’s do or die for us so we must bring the energy and effort,” he added.
The game begins at 5:45 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.
