FEU grabs semis twice-to-beat in UAAP football

MANILA, Philippines -- Far Eastern University (FEU) overcame an early one-goal deficit to beat University of Santo Tomas (2-1), 2-1, and nail the first twice-to-beat bonus in the semifinals of UAAP Season 76 men's football at the FEU-Diliman pitch on Thursday.

Jess Melliza scored his sixth goal of the season on a timely assist from Eric Giganto in the 27th minute for the equalizer, while Arnel Amita converted a header in the 57th that gave the Tamaraws the lead.

FEU solidified its hold on top spot with 24 points on an 8-0-1 win-draw-loss record, while keeping the Growling Tigers in fifth place with 11 points.

UST, which now has a 3-2-5 slate, remained one point behind idle University of the East in the race for the last semis berth.

The Tigers and the Red Warriors clash in a vital match on Sunday.
