MANILA, Philippines – Alaska forward Gabby Espinas was slapped with a P20,000 fine for his hard foul on Cliff Hodge during the knockout game between the Aces and the Meralco Bolts last Sunday.

According to the PBA’s official website, the league has decided to upgrade Espinas Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 to Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 after a thorough review on the rough play between the two cagers.

Espinas was seen throwing an elbow on Hodge face before hitting the fallen player again with his forearm.

“The Flagrant Foul 1 called on Gabby Espinas is hereby upgraded to a flagrant foul 2 for its viciousness and the perceptible intent to play the man and not the ball,” PBA Commissioner Chito Salud said.

However, no suspension was handed against Espinas.

Alaska was able to squeeze out a 94-91 win against the Bolts to advance in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Espinas is expected to suit up for Alaska’s another do-or-die game, this time against Barangay Ginebra on Saturday.
