So bows to Cuban GM in Dutch tournament

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So lost to Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez after 21 moves of Petroff Defense in the eighth round of the 76th Tata Steel Tournament in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam on Tuesday.

So remains at 4.0 points and dropped to a tie for sixth to eighth places, along with GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands and GM Pentala Harikrishna of India.

Meanwhile, top-seed GM Levon Aronian of Armenia raised his total to 6.0 points after splitting the point with GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands after 48 moves of Catalan Opening.

Aronian still has the solo lead in the tournament.

GM Sergey Karjakin of Russia defeated GM Boris Gelfand of Israel after 60 moves of Sicilian Defense, Najdorf Variation to hike his total to 5.5 points and claim solo second. -- By Marlon Bernardino
