MANILA, Philippines – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are going for a slot in the PBA Philippine Cup semi-finals when they take on the GlobalPort Batang Pier Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Rain or Shine is on a franchise-record seven-game winning streak and the Elasto Painters need to beat GlobalPort only once to advance to the semi-finals thanks to their twice-to-beat advantage.
Meanwhile, the Batang Pier sneaked into the playoffs as the seventh seed and is definitely the underdogs against the league’s hottest team.
“For us, it’s a matter of not allowing the pressure to get to us,” GlobalPort coach Ritchie Ticzon told PBA.ph. “We know the stakes are higher now, but that should only motivate us to work harder.”
But it will be a tough task for GlobalPort to pull off an upset, especially as they continue to be without star forward Jay Washington, who is out for the conference due to a muscle tear.
Rain or Shine’s defense will thus be focused on perimeter players Sol Mercado and Terrence Romeo.
Game time is at 5:45 p.m.
