MANILA, Philippines – Former United Football League (UFL) champions Pasargad FC are going to the semi-finals of the PFF Smart National Club Championships after beating General Trias, 1-0, in the quarterfinals Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Fil-Belgian defender Angelo Verheye Marasigan collected a blocked free kick by a teammate to score on a stunning 40-yard volley in the 108th minute that blew past General Trias international goalkeeper Seo Sung Seok.

It was a painful loss for the Korean-flavored Cavite-based football club, who played better football than the victors for most of the match.

All match long, Marasigan and fellow Filipino defenders Mark Anthony Fernandez and Francis Sumudivilla were dispossessed or beaten by the quicker feet of General Trias attackers, but managed to keep their wits about them.

“They are in superb condition and are a very good football team, but we all talked about tracking back and not giving up on a play,” Marasigan said. “The goal is a sweet and memorable moment for me personally, but also for the club.”

Pasargad will play Green Archers United in the semi-finals of the club championship on Saturday, January 26 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium at 6:30 p.m.

In the first game of the double-header, Ceres will play Kaya in the 4 p.m. match.
