FEU nips La Salle in UAAP men's volleyball

MANILA, Philippines – The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws defeated the De La Salle University Spikers in five sets in their second round meeting in the UAAP Season 75 men’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the San Juan Arena.

Karl dela Calzada scored 23 points in leading the defending champions to a 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 26-28 and 15-13 victory over La Salle. It was FEU’s seventh win of the season against one loss.

Myco Antonio had 30 points for La Salle but it was not enough as they absorbed their fourth loss of the season.

Four other Tamaraws finished in double-figures, with Arvin Avila and John Depamaylo each contributing 13 points and Alex Faytaren adding 13. Setter Pitrus de Ocampo also scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines won for only the second time this season with a five-set victory over Ateneo.

UP won with scores of 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-10.

In Saturday’s matches, National University (NU) won for the eighth consecutive time after overhauling a two-set deficit against University of Sto. Tomas (UST).

NU dropped the first two sets before rallying for an 18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 15-11 victory.

Adamson defeated University of the East in four sets, 25-15, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-15.

NU remains on top of the league standings with an 8-0 record, followed by FEU at 7-1. La Salle, Adamson and UST all have identical 4-4 slates.
