MANILA, Philippines – The Alaska Aces and the Meralco Bolts face off against each other Monday night in a do-or-die game for the last quarterfinals berth in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both sides finished the elimination round with 5-9 win-loss records. They were involved in a four-team tie with Barako Bull and GlobalPort, but the Energy Cola and the Batang Pier clinched playoff slots due to superior quotient.
The Aces and the Bolts were left to battle over the eighth spot, and the winner will advance to face off against the top-seeded Barangay Ginebra Kings, who own a twice-to-beat advantage.
Alaska kept its playoffs hopes alive Sunday night after beating Barako Bull, 89-80, to force the do-or-die game.
Meanwhile, Meralco has lost two consecutive games, including an 87-96 setback at the hands of Petron Blaze last Saturday.
Game time is at 8 p.m.
