MANILA, Philippines – Looks like San Miguel’s Jay Washington is on his way to getting his second straight PBA Best Player of the Conference citation as he continues to be the league’s statistical leader.

According to PBA.ph, “J-Wash” has an average of 33.30 statistical points per game up to the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

The 6’7” Filipino-American, who won the Best Player of the Conference honor in the last Fiesta Conference, joins other candidates for the award. They include:

  • · Arwind Santos of San Miguel (32.52 points)
  • · Harvey Carey of Talk N Text (30.33 points)
  • · Ali Peek of Talk N Text (29.52 points)
  • · Joe Devance of Alaska (34.24)

Although Devance had a statistical average of 34.24 points, his Alaska team bowed to Barangay Ginebra in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Washington, Santos, Carey and Peek can still push their bids in the first three games of the best-of-7 championship series between San Miguel and Talk N Text.

The winner in the Best Player of the Conference race will be named before Game 4 at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 1.

The winner will automatically become one of the candidates for the 2010-2011 season’s Most Valuable Player award.

If Washington wins, he will be the first player to nab the honor in back-to-back fashion since San Miguel’s Danny Ildefonso won it 5 straight times from 2000 and 2001.

Vergel Meneses was the only other PBA player to win in consecutive conferences. He won the Best Player of the conference award in the 1994 Governors Cup, the 1995 all-Filipino, and the 1995 Commissioner’s Cup.
