UFC's Muñoz to undergo surgery

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Mark Muñoz will undergo surgery for the injury he sustained while preparing for the Chael Sonnen fight.

Muñoz, known as the “Filipino Wrecking Machine,” said through Twitter that he suffered the injury during a sparring session just weeks before UFC on FOX 2.

“For those that r wondering. Injury on Fri sparring causing bone spurs to dislodged in my joint causing locking & pain. Surgery on Thursday,” Muñoz tweeted.

Because of the injury, the Filipino-American is now out of the UFC card.

Briton Michael Bisping took his place as Sonnen’s opponent.

The winner of the middleweight fight will challenge UFC champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva.

Muñoz assured his fans he will be back as soon as he recuperates from injury.

“I'm ok, just a little down right now but I will be back soon,” he said.
