MANILA, Philippines – After being acknowledged as Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) said it is now waiting for Bob Arum’s call to make the Manny Pacquiao-Mayweather super fight.
GBP president Oscar De La Hoya said Mayweather has already made it clear that GBP will do the negotiating on behalf of the unbeaten American boxer.
"Mayweather told bob to contact [GBP CEO] Richard Schaffer to make the fight!! Let's do this," De La Hoya said through Twitter.
He later added: "Way to step up to the plate Mayweather. Let's do it Bob. Now call Richard Schaefer, his phone on."
Mayweather singled out Top Rank’s Arum for allegedly refusing to arrange the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight.
He said that if Arum really wants the fight to happen, he should "call Schaefer and Al [Haymon] and stop lying to the public."
The Top Rank chief earlier said he is "unsure" if Schaefer and Golden Boy will even be involved in the negotiations.
"Unlike Top Rank that has a contract with Manny, we are involved. I don't know if Schaefer is involved," he said in Boxing Scene.
