Dela Hoya: Mayweather will beat Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao’s former foe, Oscar de la Hoya, claimed that unbeaten and controversial boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has the boxing style that can upset the applecart of the Filipino superstar.
De la Hoya, who owns majority of Golden Boy Promotions (GBP), said in his Twitter account that he’s certain that Pacquiao will meet his match in Mayweather.
“There is no doubt in my mind Mayweather beats Paquiao. Styles make fights,” Tweeted the retired boxer-turned boxing promoter.
De la Hoya, whom Pacquiao battered to an 8th round stoppage in 2008, said the undefeated American has the tools to beat the 8-division champion.
“Styles," according to De la Hoya, involves Mayweather patiently waiting for Manny to make the mistakes. "You see Manny is fast but Mayweather's timing is key,” said the boxing promoter.
But De la Hoya admitted that Pacquiao, the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world, is currently boxing’s biggest star.
“Pacman is the man and he does deserve to be the best fighter on the planet today,” he said.

De la Hoya said that like many fight fans, he is also frustrated that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight did not push through.
“Believe me I'm also frustrated because I feel, with Golden Boy promoting it, each fighter can make huge money and it will be great fight,” he said.
Mayweather, on the other hand, is facing legal troubles for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend. He is also facing charges for reportedly poking a finger on a security officer’s face.
Pacquiao is set to fight former GBP boxer Shane Mosley on May 7.
