MANILA, Philippines – UFC fighter Cung Le said is aching to get back at Wanderlei Silva, whom he fought back in 2011.
The Vietnamese-American added that it would be a privilege for him if the fight takes place in the Philippines.
“I would be honored to fight Wanderlei Silva here in Manila,” the fighter-actor said during the launch of ABS-CBN Sports+Action on Thursday.
Le, a former Strikeforce middleweight champion, suffered his first career loss when Silva stopped him with knees to the face in the second round of their match.
He vowed not to commit the same mistakes he made during their first fight.
“I’ll throw a lot of spinning back kicks at him,” said Le. “I think one of those kick will land and it’s good night for Wanderlei Silva.”
He is also thrilled with the prospects of participating in the anticipated UFC card in Manila.
“Even if I have to fight in the co-main with Mark Muñoz in the card, I’d gladly come here,” he said.
Le held a charity training at the SkyFitness Gym in Ortigas on Wednesday, and said that he was impressed by the turnout. The proceeds of the event will be donated to the victims of typhoon Yolanda.
“There's a lot of really good Filipino martial artists here. I think we only need to develop their wrestling and jiu-jitsu,” he said.
“Once the ground game is improved, I think Filipino fighters will come up very fast and be a forced to be reckoned with.”
