KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher was legally drunk when he shot and killed his girlfriend, then killed himself at the NFL team's training facility, autopsy results released on Monday showed.
An autopsy found Belcher's blood-alcohol level was .17 when he died, more than twice the legal limit for driving, while Kasandra Perkins, with whom he had an infant daughter, showed virtually no trace of alcohol.
Neither showed any presence of illegal drugs, the report said.
Perkins' autopsy showed she died from nine gunshot wounds. One wound from close range to the outside of her right hand could indicate she was trying to shield herself, a medical expert said.
Other shots struck her neck, chest, hip and back, with the evidence from the scene indicating she was on the floor when some of the shots were fired.
After shooting Perkins at the home they shared on December 1, Belcher drove to the Chiefs' training facility at their Arrowhead Stadium complex and shot himself.
His autopsy found he died of a single bullet wound to his right temple.
The results of a police investigation into the shootings was made public in December, outlining trouble between the couple.
The parents of both victims are seeking custody of their baby daughter, Zoey.
