MANILA, Philippines – Richard Smith of the Indonesia Warriors is facing sanctions due to his unsportsmanlike conduct in their game against the San Miguel Beermen, the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) announced.

The Filipino-American Smith was seen bumping San Mig big man Asi Taulava with his shoulder after the Beermen’s 64-53 victory over the Warriors.

“The League reviewed the video evidence and has concluded that this is considered unsportsmanlike behavior as outlined in the league’s rules and regulations,” the ABL announced in a statement.

“As such, Smith will be facing an undisclosed fine or he will be ineligible to play the Warriors the Warriors’ next game against the Saigon Heat on the 19th of January.”

The ABL said the Indonesia Warriors will not appeal the fine.

Smith played 19 minutes in their game against the Beermen and went scoreless, though he had three rebounds.

Meanwhile, Taulava warned Smith that he is “the wrong guy to mess with.”

“I can’t believe he did that to me. Don’t worry, I’ll teach that young guy a lesson. And that’s all bad for him,” Taulava said in an interview with Snow Badua of Spin.ph.

“I’m the wrong guy to mess with. He has that to sign out when he gets here. Good luck to him. Richard should learn to read between the lines,” he added. “He’s a wannabe tough guy on the court. But off the court, I know he’s just a pussycat.”
