MANILA, Philippines – The Petron Blaze Boosters look to stay in the hunt for a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs as they take on the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Petron is tied with Rain or Shine in the league standings with identical 9-3 records, and a win against the Mixers will keep them in contention for the twice-to-beat edge.
“Walang kasiguruhan, but I think our record is favorable for us,” Petron Coach Gee Abanilla told PBA.ph.
Petron had welcomed back star center JunMar Fajardo after a three-game absence in their previous contest, and Abanilla is hoping that the big man will again give them a lift.
“A lot of guys did a terrific job, but JunMar was a big key. He gave us a different look. It’s really different with him on the floor, offensively and defensively,” Abanilla said.
Petron went 1-2 in the absence of Fajardo.
Meanwhile, San Mig has put itself in a good position in the league standings after getting off to a subpar start in the conference.
“I don’t think we’re peaking,” San Mig coach Tim Cone said. “But I’ve told the players we just want to get better little by little. The key for us is to get there.”
A win on Wednesday will jack up San Mig’s stock in the league standings, where they are currently tied for fifth place with Meralco at 5-7.
Game time is at 8 p.m.
