COLORADO SPRINGS - Three-time Olympic champions Tamika Catchings, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird were among 33 players named Monday to the US women's basketball talent pool from which world and Olympic teams are chosen.
The veteran trio were joined by double gold medalists and fellow Women's NBA stars Candace Parker, Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus.
The Americans will defend their world crown later this year in Turkey and Olympic gold in 2016 at Rio de Janeiro.
US women have won five of the past seven world titles, a run that began in 1986 and was interrupted only by Brazil in 1994 and Australia in 2006.
The Americans have gone 80-1 since 1996 in international competitions, taking Olympic gold in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 plus world titles in 1998, 2002 and 2010.
"The game has changed tremendously and we are fortunate that the pool is probably greater than it has ever been," said US coach Geno Auriemma.
"I'm excited that we have so many great players to choose from."
