PH clinches silver in Asian underwater hockey

Manila, Philippines – The Philippines showed that it can compete against Asia’s best in underwater hockey after beating Singapore to nab silver in the recent 5th Asian Underwater Hockey Championship Nation’s Cup.

Team Philippines broke the sudden death by carving out a 3-2 win against their Singaporean counterparts in the men’s division at the Olivarez College in Paranaque City.

Team Philippines is composed of Nowie Cornelia, Milo Tan, Kelvin Tan, Boyet Santillan, Philippine Coast Guard’s Edcel Guzman, JL Santos, T-Boy Rodriguez, Rey Co and Abhishek Chand. It is skippered by Raymond Ilusorio-Yap.

The competitions, organized by the Citadel Underwater Hockey Club in cooperation with the Philippine Underwater Hockey Confederation, drew teams from China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Australia.

The Philippines also won bronze in the mixed division of the Nation's Cup, which is backed by Japanese fast-food chain KarateKid.
