MANILA, Philippines – GlobalPort forward Kelly Nabong vows to continue giving his best effort for the Batang Pier as they continue to play games without star forward Jay Washington in the final stretch of the PBA Philippine Cup.

“Kelly has been playing well,” GlobalPort coach Ritchie Ticzon told after their game against Alaska last week. “It’s unfortunate not to have Jay, but it’s great that Kelly was able to step up and show his talent.”

“He is really good, and his passion for the game is really a big thing,” added the coach.

Against Alaska, Nabong finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and hit clutch free throws in overtime to hand GlobalPort a much-needed 91-88 win. It was the Batang Pier’s fifth win of the conference, keeping them in the hunt for a playoff spot.

“Our win boosts my confidence,” said Nabong. “It’s a good team effort. It’s a stepping stone. We have to keep on building our confidence. We can’t let up, and we won’t stop until we get to the finals.”

Nabong promised to continue to step up his play to help GlobalPort reach their goal.

“I’m going to do everything for my team. If they want me to rebound, I’ll do it. If they want me to take a shot or play defense on somebody, I’ll take the defense. I’ll dive for the ball,” he said.

“I’ll do everything I can. That’s what I’m all about – giving 150% in everything I do,” he added.
