MANILA, Philippines – Zanfer Promotions president Fernando Beltran wants Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez to hold his return fight at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas should he decide to continue his boxing career.
Marquez has not made any decision about the next step of his career since beating great rival Manny Pacquiao last December. He may either retire or fight Pacquiao for a fifth time.
“Marquez has not made any decision yet,” Beltran told Boxing Scene. “But my projection is that if Pacquiao has a fight for April in Singapore, let him do that."
Pacquiao has made it clear that he has no plans to retire, and his team is planning for him to have a tune-up fight in April in a location outside of the United States.
Beltran said that if Pacquiao is fighting in April, Marquez can also fight on the same date or a week later, just in a different location.
“I believe that for Marquez, it is important to fight and make history at the same time. And I would like for him to do it at Cowboys Stadium,” Beltran said.
Pacquiao has fought twice at Cowboys Stadium, decisioning Joshua Clottey in March 2010 and then outpointing Antonio Margarito in November 2010.
Welterweight contenders Jessie Vargas and Vyacheslav Senchenko have been tabbed as potential opponents for both Pacquiao and Marquez.
If both legends are successful in their April fight dates, then a fifth match is possible for September.
