MANILA, Philippines – San Beda standout Arvin Tolentino has committed to play for the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles, according to multiple reports.

Tolentino was the Finals Most Valuable Player when the Red Cubs won the NCAA Season 89 Juniors Championship by beating the College of St. Benilde Greenies.

Joaquin Henson of the Philippine Star and Mike Abasolo of InboundPass reported over the weekend that the highly sought after forward had committed to play for Ateneo in the UAAP

“Tolentino is moving from San Beda to join Ateneo as a freshman,” said Henson, noting that the Red Cub will join an impressive recruiting class that also includes UAAP Juniors MVP Thirdy Ravena and UAAP Juniors Finals MVP Hubert Cani.

Meanwhile, InboundPass cited a source who quoted Tolentino as saying that he “wants to play in the UAAP.”

The same source said that if the Red Lions were in the UAAP, Tolentino would have played for them.

Aside from Ateneo, Tolentino was also recruited by reigning UAAP champions De La Salle University, his alma mater San Beda College, and the National University Bulldogs.

It was also reported that NCAA Division 1 schools were interested in the 6-foot-5 forward.

The versatile Tolentino is expected to make an immediate impact for the Blue Eagles, who saw their five-year reign in the UAAP end in Season 76.
