PBA: Torrid outside shooting propels Mahindra past Meralco

Philip Paniamogan scored 25 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the 3-point territory and Mahindra let it rain from behind the arc to get a 105-92 win over Meralco in the PBA Philippine Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Mahindra buried 21 of 47 3-pointers compared to just 19 of 31 in the 2-point area, an unusual distribution of shots given that teams lean more toward traditionally high-percentage attempts.

But somehow Mahindra's long-distance game clicked, helping the Floodbuster earn their second straight win.

Jason Deutchman sank 3 triples and four other Mahindra players had a couple of 3-pointers each for the Floodbuster, who improved to 2-5 after losing their first five games.

Reynel Hugnatan scored 28 points and Chris Newsome add 19 for Meralco, which sank to the bottom of the standings with a 2-6 record.

MERALCO 92 — Hugnatan 28, Newsome 19, Amer 12, Faundo 9, Uyloan 8, Daquioag 6, Grey 3, Caram 2, Chua 2, Nabong 2, Hodge 1, Buenafe 0.
