MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University continued to flash its deadly form, routing Ateneo, 10-0, on Saturday not only to complete a first-round sweep of Season 76 but also extend its winning run further in UAAP softball.

The Lady Falcons needed only four innings to complete the demolition job of the Lady Eagles at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. They are now unbeaten in 40 games since Season 73.

National University survived a scare at the top of the seventh inning before eking out an 8-7 triumph over University of the East to arrest their two game slump. The Lady Bulldogs, the runners-up last year, ended the first round with a 4-2 card.

Also on Saturday, University of Santo Tomas scored a 9-3 victory over University of the Philippines—the Tigresses’ fifth win in six games that gave them solo second place.

UE and UP are tied in fourth place with identical 2-4 records, while Ateneo and De La Salle are locked in fifth spot with 1-5 marks apiece.

Starting pitcher Rizza Bernardino did the damage not only from atop the mound, but also on the plate.

The Season 74 Most Valuable Player Bernardino threw three innings but highlighted her remarkable performance with a grand-slam homer at the bottom of the first inning for her team-best four RBIs.

The Lady Falcons exploded with nine runs right in the first frame to set the tone for the abbreviated victory.
