MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Chito Salud said his office will look into the on-court confrontation between Jared Dillinger and Calvin Abueva during the Meralco-Alaska game last Friday.

Salud said he will review the video first thing on Monday to determine if the technical fouls assessed on the two players are enough to address the issue.

“I will review the incident in my office first thing on Monday and make a determination as to the sufficiency of the technical fouls assessed against both players for their actuations,” Salud said in the league’s official website.

“If the penalties given on court are found to be proportionate to the acts in question, then I will consider the matter closed. Otherwise, I will invite the players involved to hear their side and thereafter mete out the commensurate sanctions,” he added.

Meralco’s Dillinger and Alaska’s Abueva got entangled after the latter rejected the former’s drive to the basket at the onset of the fourth quarter.

A wayward elbow bloodied Dillinger’s nose, prompting the player to go after Abueva’s after they crashed to the cushioned railing behind the basket.

They were both assessed technical fouls after the scuffle. Abueva, for his part, got ejected from the game.

Alaska team owner Fred Uytengsu later approached the PBA commissioner, allegedly asking for added sanctions against Dillinger for choking Abueva.

Salud later clarified that the Alaska executive only “wanted some clarification on the incident.”

Meralco won the game, 74-65.

Dillinger was still able to finish with 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Abueva settled for 6 markers.
