‘The Ghost’ can bring them closer to superfight, he says

MANILA – Boxing coach Freddie Roach said a fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero would be a good option for Manny Pacquiao this coming April.

He said Guerrero, who already fought and lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr., has had competitive sparring sessions with Pacquiao.

"[Robert] Guerrero has sparred with Manny many times and he thinks he gets the best of Manny. He's made that public before that he used to beat Manny up in sparring. I see it a different way, but I would love that fight and I think it's a great fight,” roach said in

Guerrero has virtually become an ideal candidate for Pacquiao's April 12 bout after he took legal action to break from his contract with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP).

If he becomes a free agent, he will be able to take on Pacquiao who fights under Top Rank inc.

Roach also said that a victory over the four-division former world champion could get them closer to that elusive superbout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The coach said Guerrero was able to go the distance against Mayweather. A knockout victory over Guerrero will catapult the fighting congressman right in front of the elusive American boxer.

“You know, he went the distance with Mayweather and I think if Manny knocks him out, it puts us even closer to the Mayweather fight," Roach said.

Other fighters being considered for Pacquiao are Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov.

Roach, however, said that a rematch with Bradley could turn out to be a “boring” bout. He also has apprehensions about the Provodnikov fight since he also trains the “Siberian Rocky.”
