MANILA, Philippines – Shooting guard JC Intal is thankful that he finally found his home in Barako Bull, a team that allowed him to use his talents to the fullest.
Since being drafted in 2007, the former Ateneo Blue Eagle journeyed from Air21, Barangay Ginebra and San Mig Coffee before landing a spot in the Energy Cola squad.
Intal said it is in Barako Bull where he fully gained his confidence.
“Sobrang thankful lang ako sa teammates ko at sa coaching staff. Ang taas ng confidence na binibigay nila sa kin,” he said in the PBA website. “Si coach Bong [Ramos], di ako pinipigilan tumira kahit saan, pero iba talaga yung confidence na nakukuha ko.”
That confidence enabled the 30-year-old to help Barako Bull upset Petron Blaze, 92-88, on Wednesday.
Against the Boosters, Intal scored 17 points apart from grabbing six rebounds, allowing the Energy Cola to nab solo fifth place with a 5-7 card.
Intal said the victory is a morale-booster heading to their Sunday game against crowd favorite Gin Kings.
“It’s a big win for us. Sobrang confidence booster ito for us kasi malakas din 'yung kalaban namin this Sunday in Ginebra, so we’re very, very happy na naka-upset kami,” he said. “Kahit nandito ako sa Barako Bull, malakas pa rin tong team na to and sabi nila farm team pero sana napu-prove namin kahit papaano na kaya naming tumapat sa ibang teams.”
Intal is also regaining his shooting form from the three-point area, where he could do damage against other teams.
“Pina-practice ko lang talaga kaya buti nadadala sa game. Sobrang thankful ako kasi kailangan talaga i-practice (yung shooting) every day kasi once na nag-stop ka, once na nag-quit ka, mawawala talaga yung kumpyansa mo,” he said.
