UP booters score clinical win vs NU

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) scored clinical 5-1 victory over National University (NU) in UAAP Season 76 men’s football on Thursday at the Far Eastern University (FEU)-Diliman pitch.

In the other games, De La Salle University nipped University of Santo Tomas (UST), 3-2, while titleholder Ateneo de Manila University and University of the East battled to a 1-1 draw.

The Fighting Maroons and the Green Archers remained tied at 12 points, with UP securing second spot by virtue of higher goal differential. Far Eastern University, which drew a bye, is on top of the table with a maximum 18 points.

Carlos Monfort opened scoring for the Maroons in the 19th minute, while Jinggoy Valmayor doubled the lead, converting on the 31st minute from a Daniel Gadia assist.

Rookie Alfonso Ancheta had a booming 59th minute strike from 35 meters, while Daniel Gadia scored a brace in the 79th and 88th minutes for UP.
