MANILA, Philippines – The manager of Russian brawler Ruslan Provodnikov respects the comments of middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin regarding a potential showdown between the “Siberian Rocky” and Filipino boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.
Golovkin, one of the most fearsome punchers in boxing, recently told Boxing Scene that Provodnikov poses no challenge for the Filipino legend.
“I know Ruslan and I respect him, but I think he is nothing for Manny,” he was quoted as saying. “He is nothing. He doesn’t have a chance with Manny.”
Speaking to Boxing Scene, Provodnikov’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, said he respects Golovkin but disagrees with his notion.
“We are very respectful to the fact that our friend Gennady Golovkin shared his opinion about Ruslan’s chances against Manny Pacquaio,” Kornilov said. “Let’s agree to differ. In my opinion, any professional knows that in boxing, there is always a chance.”
Provodnikov is one of the potential opponents being eyed when the Filipino boxer returns to action in April 2014. It has been reported, however, that the “Pacman” is going for a rematch against American Timothy Bradley Jr.
