MANILA, Philippines – The Petron Blaze Boosters are gunning for their ninth victory and a share of the lead when they face off against the Barako Bull Energy the PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Petron recovered from a brief two-game losing streak by beating Talk ‘N Text in their most recent game, but will continue to play without injured center JunMar Fajardo.
“It’s really different without JunMar. We found a way to win against Talk ‘N Text, and hopefully we can build on it,” Petron coach Gee Abanilla told PBA.ph. “We’re not sure how long JunMar will be out.”
A win on Wednesday will allow Petron to tie Barangay Ginebra at the top of the league standings with identical 9-2 win-loss records.
But they figure to have a tough time against a veteran Barako Bull squad that also features former Petron players. Barako ended 2013 on a good note, winning two of their last three games for a 4-7 record.
“We expect them (Petron) to play very inspired basketball after the win against Talk ‘N Text without Fajardo,” Barako coach Bong Ramos said. “We just have to be ready.”
Petron had beaten Barako, 96-90, in their first encounter this conference.
Game time is at 8 p.m.
