MANILA, Philippines – Bobby Ray Parks scored 20 points to help National University-Banco de Oro Bulldogs rout Arellano University, 97-68, and snap a six-game losing streak in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Monday at the Arellano gym.
The Bulldogs have not played in over a month, with their most recent game, a 69-74 loss to Café France, last December 3.
But the long break seemed to have revitalized the Bulldogs, as their crisp ball movement and up-tempo game allowed them to dominate the Chiefs.
“The players were pressured to win,” said BDO deputy coach Joey Guanio in an interview with the league website. “Coach (Eric Altamirano) said if they don’t win today, they will have to practice three times a day. I thought our shooting clicked.”
Guanio called the shots in place of Altamirano, who is on a scouting trip in the United States.
Troy Rosario added 18 points for the Bulldogs, 10 of which came in the first quarter when NU-BDO opened up a 23-12 advantage.
Parks added 11 points in the third period, helping the Bulldogs build a 76-45 lead entering the final quarter.
It was earlier reported that Parks will no longer suit up for the Bulldogs, but Guanio believes the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player will play until the end of the conference.
The loss was Arellano’s seventh straight and ninth overall.
