MANILA, Philippines -- Adamson University played its best offensive game of the season as the reigning three-time UAAP softball champions routed National University (NU), 12-2, in four innings to grab the solo lead on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The rematch of last season's finals turned into a rout as Annalie Benjamen and Angelie Ursubia blasted two-run homers to allow the Lady Falcons to extend their remarkable winning run to 38 games, in the process dealing the Lady Bulldogs, who scored a run each at the bottom third and fourth innings, their first loss of the season.

Adamson University improved to 4-0, while NU dropped to 3-1 in a tie with University of Santo Tomas, an 11-3 winner over De La Salle also yesterday, in second place.

Ateneo posted a stunning 5-4 upset University of the Philippines to barge into the win column. The Lady Maroons went down to their second defeat in four matches while the Lady Eagles moved into a tie with the Lady Archers in sixth place at 1-4.

Trailing 2-5, UP cut the deficit to one on an over the fence homerun by DC Cruz, her second of the season. But it was not enough for the Diliman belles to stop the Lady Eagles from securing their first win.

Ateneo, meanwhile, opens its title-retention bid in baseball against Adamson at 8 a.m. at the Rizal ballpark on Sunday.

Last season's runner-up NU takes on De La Salle, followed by the UP-UST duel to complete a three-game opening day bill.
