MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten Nicaraguan fighter Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez wants a shot at Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria in a match that will pit champion against champion.
Gonzalez currently holds the World Boxing Association (WBA) light-flyweight title, while Viloria holds the WBA and World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight championships.
“If given a choice, I would like to face Brian Viloria,” Gonzalez was quoted as saying by Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
“In order to be considered the best, you have to beat the best and I think Viloria definitely ranks right up there at this moment,” he added.
Viloria received consideration for Fight of the Year honors after a solid 2012 which saw him win over Omar Nino Romero and Hernan Marquez via technical knockouts.
Gonzalez has a spotless record of 34 wins, with 28 wins coming by knockout. His most recent victory was a unanimous decision win over Juan Francisco Estrada in November 2012.
Nathanielsz reported that Viloria is open to fighting Gonzalez, although he has been mandated by the WBO to defend his belt against countryman Milan Melindo.
