COTABATO - The Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed P25-million worth of farm equipment, animals and seedlings to farmers in selected Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) camps.
The distribution of equipment and animals is part of the DA's Camp Transformation Program and the normalization process under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
Under the program, around 1000 farmers in six MILF camps in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur will receive benefits from the government, which include seedlings, carabaos and farm equipment.
The program aims to provide a productive and peaceful community for those living in MILF camps.
According to Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, a monitoring team will keep track of the progress of the beneficiaries. He also assured the beneficiaries of the government's support until the selling of their products.
The government will also provide boats, fishing equipment, goats, corn shellers and corn mills in the following months.
Aside from the Camp Transformation Program, the government also launched the Sajahatra Bangsamoro, which is a socio-economic initiative aimed to uplift the health, education, and livelihood conditions of MILF communities. - report from Albashir Saiden, ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao
