DAVAO CITY – A man died while three others were injured when a grenade exploded in Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District in Davao City on Tuesday.
Investigations disclosed that all the victims were inside the house of Matigsalog Tribe chieftain Datu Tony Isod in Sitio Malamboom when the accident transpired.
Datu Tony Ingay, one of those injured, was trying to fix a generator. He apparently tried to open a bag containing tools, when the grenade, which was inside the bag, exploded.
Killed instantly was Ingay’s son Dante, while seriously hurt were Isod, his 9-year-old son John Mark Isod, and Rosemarie Ingay, who lost her right foot.
The wounded were taken by elements of the 69th Infantry Battalion to the Southern Philippines Medical Center where they are now recuperating.
Those who knew the Ingays said they are members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU). This could possibly be the reason why they had a grenade in their possession.
- From a report by Rodirey Salas, ABS-CBN News Davao
