ILOILO – A teenager died and another remains in critical condition after they were electrocuted during a "beach party" in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on Saturday.
Dead on the spot, according to investigator PO1 Angelo Martinez of the Mandurriao Philippine National Police, was Mar Valentine Conejar, 19, of Guanco, Iloilo City. Wilson John Barel of Mandurriao is in critical condition at a hospital.
The incident, Martinez said, happened during the "Chasing the Sun: Beach Party in the City," held at a car park of an establishment in Mandurriao.
Initial investigations revealed that the 2 students, who were wet at the time, got electrocuted after holding a grounded railing. They collapsed and were rushed to a hospital.
Police said the Bureau of Fire Protection will seek the assistance of the City Engineer's Office in the investigation to determine why there was a problem in the venue’s electrical wiring.
Organizers of the party, who are students of the College of Business and Accountancy of Central Philippine University, could not be reached for comment as of posting.
The party continued as if nothing happened, police said. -- Report from Joyce Clavecillas, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
