MANILA -- The lawyer of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles on Wednesday said there is no talk yet of seeking hospital arrest for the businesswoman.
Speaking to radio dzMM, Atty. Bruce Rivera said there was a "misconception" regarding the motion for a medical examination that they filed at the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150.
Rivera said they filed the motion becasue Napoles was complaining of profuse menstrual bleeding and needed to undergo transvaginal ultrasound examination and a thorough medical check-up.
The procedures could not be done at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where the businesswoman is currently detained for a separate serious illegal detention charge filed by whistleblower Benhur Luy.
"Ang kailangan lang namin malaman is kung may sakit ba or wala at ano yung cause ng kanyang bleeding," Rivera said.
He said there is no talk yet of asking for hospital arrest since Napoles has not yet informed him and the other lawyers regarding the results of her medical exam earlier today. The results were released this afternoon.
Napoles' personal doctor has also not yet talked to them about their client's health, he said, citing the patient-doctor confidentiality agreement.
He added that they have also not yet discussed whether Napoles needs to undergo another medical check-up.
"At this point po hindi po namin pinag-uusapan yung hospital arrest. Hindi po namin pinag-uusapan iyung kung anong gagawin," Rivera said.
"Ang masasabi ko lang po ako personally, mas okay kung walang hospital arrest kasi walang sakit, di ba?" he added.
Napoles underwent electrocardiogram, transvaginal ultrasound, blood extraction, and pap smear at the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Camp Crame Wednesday morning.
PNP Health Service director Alejandro Advincula said doctors found a lump in her uterus.
But he said there is no need for Napoles to be confined in a hospital because her condition is not life-threatening.
A PNP OB-gynecologist also said there was no sign of the bleeding that Napoles earlier complained about or the ovarian cyst that was found in a 2013 diagnosis. -- With report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
